Inspiration is Everywhere, even more so in Copenhagen

Interior designers find inspiration everywhere and we have the privilege of stepping into our clients’ homes and lives, creating deep connections and lasting relationships. I thought it would be my turn to share a little more about myself.

Forty years ago my parents moved to Copenhagen with my brother and me. I was a carefree kid, and we spent three wonderful years in this beautiful country. In September 2025, I had the opportunity to travel back there for the first time since we left Copenhagen in 1988, and it was so emotional!

I realized how much your surroundings unconsciously shape us and become the building blocks of who we are and true sources of inspiration. During those years, I learned to ride a bike, roller skate and swim; I rode my first roller coaster at Tivoli Gardens, probably fell in love with weeping willow trees and thatched roof, developed a taste for rye bread, smoked fish, ice cream and cardamom in pastries.

Above all, is it where I started to develop an interest and love for design and architecture? Do I love single-story ranch style houses because we lived in a typical Danish mid-century one? Not to mention the eclectic furniture coming with this furnished home, mixing Scandinavian items along with Asian ones (our landlord was from Korea and she had brought some furniture from there!).

We often remember people, gatherings and celebrations, but we tend to forget about all those things that we don’t see anymore but are somewhere in the back of our minds. Interior design is also about helping my clients express those hidden feelings that will make them happy.

As a bonus, below are a couple of vintage pictures, and you get to see me as a school-aged kid with my brother and best friend at that time (she is still one of my besties 40 years later!).
