The brief

How to design a profitable Airbnb cabin

Travelling to Alaska was such a breathtaking and inspiring experience, and having the opportunity to work on this Anchorage Airbnb design and installation was an amazing and fun project. Shipping furniture to the Last Frontier can be tricky, and I am glad I found Shop and Deliver by Lulu, who take care of everything, from ordering your shopping list to doorstep delivery in Anchorage.

Competition is fierce in the world of short term rentals, and it can be tough to get potential guests to click on your listing and book their stay. Great Airbnb design, functional amenities, useful necessities, fun games and professional photographs can make a real difference. Once booked, a place still needs to feel as cozy, functional and consistent as the listing photos and description. This Anchorage design is part of our specialized short-term rental design service, helping hosts increase visibility, bookings and guest satisfaction in a competitive market. To stand out from competing listings, it is important to create a unique style and cohesive color palette that makes your space memorable. For this Alaska cabin, I drew inspiration from the state’s dramatic natural landscapes and native artwork, translating that into a scheme of ice and sky blues, salmon pink, and sun-bleached red. To give the space personality, I mixed in thrifted vintage decor, glassware, books, and a combination of real and faux greenery.

The extra room downstairs serves as a fun game room with a combo game table, an arcade machine, a selfie backdrop, and a dedicated desk space. In the upstairs loft, a playful glamping area can accommodate up to four people, ideal as a kids’ sleeping zone or additional guest space. Every choice follows the same design rules that make a rental perform.

Outdoor space

Outdoor living is key for an Airbnb, even in Alaska during the winter months. Colorful Adirondack chairs, pillows, and a fire pit make the outdoor area an inviting extension of the cabin, catching guests’ attention and helping the listing stand out from the competition.

Questions

Frequently asked questions about Airbnb design

How do you design a profitable Airbnb?

A profitable Airbnb or short-term rental balances strong visual branding, guest comfort, durable materials, and photogenic design elements that increase click-through rates and bookings. The right amenities and necessities lead to 5 star reviews. See how to design an Airbnb that books.

What colors work best in an Airbnb design?

Draw inspiration from local features and attractions. Nature-inspired palettes, blues, greens, warm woods, and muted reds, work well for a cabin design, for example. See our guide to the best paint colors for an Airbnb.

Is professional interior design worth it for a short-term rental?

Yes. Professionally designed short-term rentals often photograph better, attract more bookings, and justify higher nightly rates. A professional designer will also enhance the layout and functionality of the home.
