Themed Airbnb interior design in Orlando, a Coco-inspired build
A colorful, immersive short-term rental inspired by the Disney movie Coco, designed and fully furnished to maximize bookings and nightly rates near Orlando. Here is the project, room by room.
In an oversaturated market, an experience is the differentiator
Competition is fierce in the world of short-term rentals and the Orlando market is oversaturated with generic rentals. Guests increasingly lean towards experiential stays, as they want to create life-long memories with their families and friends. Investing in a unique themed Airbnb interior design in Florida, useful necessities, functional amenities and fun games makes a difference and should be part of the overall Airbnb strategy in Orlando. It drives higher nightly rates and, eventually, higher ROI over the long run.
Bringing Coco to life
Designing this Airbnb was not about decorating with a theme. The goal was to create a fully immersive experience, so guests do not just see it, they feel it the moment they walk through the door, welcomed by a beautiful mural by @enockdorestan. Inspired by the Disney movie Coco, the concept blends storytelling, color psychology, and spatial design to transport guests into the emotional and visual world of the film.
Coco is a story about family, memory, music, and cultural heritage. Rather than replicating scenes literally, the design translates these themes into a cohesive environment that feels authentic, vibrant, and emotionally engaging. Color plays a leading role throughout the home, and subtle references are woven throughout the space, allowing guests to discover new details over time rather than overwhelming them with obvious theming. This balance is key in appealing to both families and adult guests, a crucial factor for high-performing short-term rentals in the Orlando market.
Two worlds, one cohesive experience
To fully capture the essence of the film, the home was conceptually divided into two distinct yet connected worlds. Warm, vibrant, and grounded, the first floor is designed for connection and comfort: a colorful living and dining space, an entry with a custom mural referencing the Rivera family, and a bedroom referencing Mama Coco and the family legacy create an inviting, story-driven environment.
Upstairs, the atmosphere shifts into something more immersive and theatrical. A starry game room landing and character-inspired bedrooms introduce bold colors, contrast, and a sense of discovery, culminating in a glamorous master suite inspired by Ernesto de la Cruz’s peak of fame during the art deco era.
Experience-driven design
Every space was designed with guest experience in mind. The layout encourages exploration, the details invite interaction, and the overall flow creates memorable moments throughout the stay. This approach is what transforms a property from a standard rental into a destination in itself. It drives higher engagement, stronger reviews, and increased booking demand. In a competitive market like Orlando, it is not just about offering a place to stay, it is about creating a story guests want to step into and remember long after they leave.

Entry and custom Rivera mural
Guests are welcomed by a vibrant mural inspired by the Rivera family from the movie Coco. This colorful focal point immediately sets the tone for the home and creates a photo-ready first impression. It is a small detail with big impact, perfect for social media shares and guest excitement. @enockdorestan did a wonderful job on this project, and when budget allows, hiring a professional muralist can be a high-ROI design choice.
Living and dining areas
The open living and dining space blends Mexican-inspired color, textures, and decor to create a lively gathering spot for families and groups of friends. Functional yet visually striking, this area encourages connection and is a great spot for Instagram-worthy moments. To add personality, we like to thrift vintage decor, glassware and books, and add a combination of real and faux greenery.
Patio and pool area
Come relax on the patio. Bright, playful, and inviting, the patio and pool area features lounge seating, a dining table, beach towels, and a projector for movie nights. Outdoor spaces extend the guest experience, enhancing relaxation and social interaction.
Mama Coco bedroom
A warm, heritage-inspired bedroom honoring Mama Coco and the family shoemaking legacy. Subtle thrifted decor details create nostalgia and comfort, appealing to families seeking a cozy, story-driven stay.
Game room
The starry, atmospheric landing introduces guests to the Land of the Dead. Arcade machines and a game table create an interactive, playful hub that contrasts with the downstairs warmth, an unexpected wow moment that guests remember.
Miguel and Dante bedrooms
Bold red accents and music-inspired details celebrate Miguel’s passion for guitar and performance. The playful, photogenic design appeals to both kids and adults, reinforcing the home’s immersive storytelling. Purple tones and playful decor bring the spirit of Dante to life, combining whimsy and comfort while adding variety to the upstairs experience.
Ernesto de la Cruz master suite
Glamorous art deco touches evoke Ernesto de la Cruz’s showmanship and success. Bold design, luxury details, and theatrical elements make this bedroom feel like a destination itself, perfect for memorable guest photos and premium stays. The custom neon sign from NeonSignTX, based on the vinyl cover in the movie, adds a personal and unique touch to the bedroom.
